Preparatory Stage at Indian Educational School

Igniting Curiosity, Cultivating Values, Empowering the Whole Child

The Preparatory Stage at Indian Educational School forms the bridge between the foundational years and formal academic learning. Envisioned under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this stage covers Grades 3 to 5 and is a crucial phase in a child’s developmental journey. Guided by the latest National Curriculum Framework (NCF), our program emphasises experiential, activity-based learning within a value-rich environment that nurtures both intellect and character.

Curriculum Designed for Exploration and Expression

The curriculum at the Preparatory Stage is dynamic and thoughtfully integrated to promote conceptual understanding, creativity, and self-expression. It builds on the play- and discovery-based foundation laid in earlier years, while gradually introducing more structured learning in language, Mathematics,  Science, Social Studies, arts, and physical education.

Subjects are interconnected through thematic units and storytelling, allowing children to understand and apply knowledge in real-world contexts. Lessons are designed to foster inquiry, critical thinking, and independent learning—skills that will serve them for life.

Experiential Learning as Methodology

True to the NEP’s vision, our teaching methodology is rooted in experiential learning. Students engage in a wide variety of hands-on projects, role-plays, science experiments, model-making, field visits, and collaborative activities that make learning vibrant, purposeful, and lasting.

By learning through doing, children not only grasp academic concepts more effectively but also develop essential life skills such as decision-making, teamwork, and resilience. Mythology, literature, and real-life narratives are used as powerful tools to weave cultural wisdom and moral lessons into academic subjects, creating meaningful connections and instilling a sense of identity and values.

Differentiated Learning for Every Learner

Recognizing that no two children learn the same way, our classrooms embrace differentiated instruction. Teaching is personalized to accommodate diverse learning styles, interests, and abilities. We integrate the principles of Multiple Intelligences, ensuring that linguistic, logical, visual, musical, kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic strengths are all acknowledged and developed.

Students are encouraged to demonstrate their understanding in multiple formats—through writing, drawing, speaking, movement, and technology—creating an inclusive and affirming learning experience for every child.

Educating the Whole Child

The Preparatory Stage is not only about academics; it is about nurturing the whole child. Our curriculum and pedagogy are carefully balanced to support development in the following domains:

  • Cognitive Development – Fostering analytical thinking, curiosity, and problem-solving.
  • Social and Emotional Development – Encouraging empathy, cooperation, self-regulation, and confidence.
  • Physical Development – Through games, yoga, and motor skill activities.
  • Creative and Aesthetic Development – With art, music, drama, and storytelling as regular components.
  • Spiritual and Moral Development – Grounding learning within the framework of ethical values, respect, integrity, responsibility, and compassion.

We believe education must be value-oriented and human-centered. Our classrooms are spaces where respect, inclusion, honesty, and care are lived values—modeled by educators and practiced by students.

Preparing for the Future with Heart and Mind

At Indian Educational School, the Preparatory Stage prepares students not only for academic success but also for life. By cultivating curiosity, character, and competence, we aim to shape confident, compassionate learners who are ready to engage with the world thoughtfully and responsibly.
